BREAKING: Wadham votes veggie in referendum

College News News

Wadham students have voted to uphold a motion calling for “Meat-Free Mondays” tonight after a protracted debate over the issue in the last two weeks.

145 members of the SU – equivalent to a JCR – voted against the vegetarian scheme, while 216 voted to keep the motion’s provisions in place. There were 21 abstentions.

The original motion, proposed by student Josh Davis, mandated members of the SU committee to ask college authorities to only serve vegetarian options in Hall on Mondays.

Student reaction to the result was largely positive. Jack Hayes, a fresher at the college, tweeted an image of the result with the comment “WELL DONE WADHAM CORRECT CHOICE”.

Jane Cahill, a third-year at Queen’s, tweeted: “Landslide win 4 veg. Only at Wadham. Excellent choice.”
