Union Secretary resigns

Union Secretary Dom Merchant has resigned for ‘health reasons’.

Merchant, a 2nd year at New College, issued a statement, saying: “It is with great regret that I am resigning my position as Secretary for health reasons. I have greatly enjoyed my time on committee and am very sorry for the disruption this will cause to the committee and the members. However, I need to put my own well-being first and I am unable to continue in the role.”

Merchant will be replaced as Secretary by current Standing Committee member and Somerville undergrad Stuart Webber. Webber will be replaced on Standing Committee by David Browne.

Union President Mayank Banerjee commented on the news: “I was upset to hear about Dom’s resignation but I want to thank him for all of the work he has done for the society and I wish him the very best for the future.”

Banerjee added: “I am genuinely glad that I got to the chance to get to know Dom and I’m sure that Stuart will do an excellent job as Secretary.”

Merchant was elected in a very closely fought election in Trinity 2014, beating opponent Annie Teriba by only 3 votes.
