Oldie of The Week: ‘I Feel The Earth Move’, Carole King (1971)

Oldie of The Week 12/05/17: ‘I Feel The Earth Move’, Carole King (1971)

Once described as ‘the unleashing of an entire generation of soft-spoken college girls’ collective libidos’, Carole King’s 1971 smash hit is truly iconic. She brought passionate, hippy, free-loving expression into the mainstream, in a musical climate that for women still mostly consisted in playing plodding hymns in church for out-of-tune choirs. King might seem mellow in comparison to the Nicki Minajs, Lady Gagas, and Beyonces of this world, but she’s a seriously bold and creative lady, and she deserves your attention.

‘I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down
I feel my heart start to trembling
Whenever you’re around

Ooh, baby, when I see your face
Mellow as the month of May
Oh, darling, I can’t stand it
When you look at me that way’.
