Oxford-based group, Glass Animals, have cancelled their upcoming tour after their drummer (pictured left) was injured in a crash while cycling.

On the 2nd July, Joe Seaward broke his leg and fractured his skull following a collision in Dublin involving a lorry.

The indie band had planned a series of concerts in North America and Europe, including one at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

The group shot to fame with their 2014 debut album, Zaba, and were subsequently nominated for a Mercury Prize last year.

Frontman Dave Bayley has said: “Life has thrown something horribly sad and unexpected at us, and we need to do everything in our power to conquer it and get Joe back on his feet.”

Bayley has written to fans saying, Seaward had undergone “a couple of long operations” but was “on the road to recovery”.

“Miraculously, and thankfully, he is alive,” he said.

Bayley added: “The operation was successful, but the collapsed skull bruised and damaged the area of the brain responsible for speech.”

“It’s going to be a long, difficult, and winding road, but knowing how determined Joe is, and seeing how much his body has recovered already in the past 10 days, I am so optimistic that he will make it back to his cheeky old self.”
