Oxford University has announced that the Tinbergen building is to be demolished and replaced with new state-of-the-art facilities.
Tinbergen was abandoned in February 2017 after absestos was discovered in the building and has been empty ever since. The new centre will house the Departments of Experimental Psychology, Plant Sciences and Zoology which were once hosted in Tinbergen. A new centre will also be created for the life and mind sciences.
The University is currently in discussion with Oxford City Council which will continue into 2019. Discussions will involve public consultation and engagement.
The new centre is set to be the largest building project Oxford has ever undertaken and will include research and teaching labs, lecture theatres, administrative accommodation, specialised support labs and spaces for public engagement.
Contractors are currently in the process of removing the asbestos ahead of demolition.
