The VMAs: The good, the bad and the very, very ugly

It’s been a busy week for red carpet fashion, with GQ’s men of the year awards, the MET gala and of course the VMAs. Being one of the first post- lockdown award events I had high hopes, but some of the looks were disappointing to say the least. Here’s our run down on the good, the bad and the very very ugly. 

 

Olivia Rodrigo 

Our new pop sweetheart Olivia, walked the carpet in an Atelier Versace mermaid dress from 2001- now that’s commitment to y2k. she looked stunning but after seeing the absolute looks Olivia served on her instagram and in her music videos I was hoping for something more adventurous… 

Lucky for us she treated us to a spectacular costume change, looking like she walked straight off the set of her Good 4 U music video. the gloves, the shoes, the wired body, the skirt; the whole thing is spectacular. Brb I’m off to scour depop for gloves!

Saint JHN is one of the few men that Chanel dresses. The pink channel is giving me professor umbridge vibes but in a good way because who doesn’t love a power suit.  

 

Dove Cameron

It’s a cute outfit, sure, for brunch. It just feels a bit boring, especially for someone who just days ago was front row at some of the most impressive NY fashion week shows. 

 

Shawn Mendes 

Not much to say. The trousers are too slouchy for the shoes, he needs a stronger shoe game… or a tailor. 

 

Avril Lavigne

The tartan and the pink, it feels like angsty teenage Avril Lavigne has resurrected. I just wish she’d buttoned up the jacked so we could see the heart. 

 

Megan Fox

She looks gorgeous, as usual.

 

Jack Harlow

I’m a fan. Leather, suits and fun colours all in one what more could you want. He’s really coming into his own with his outfits at the moment, no more geek glasses! 

 

Lil Nas X 

Lil Nas never disappoints, both his VMA fits were fire. The purple one shoulder is a look and I’m a sucker for sparkles. The pink leather looks like it was taken straight from Paris Hilton’s wardrobe. 

 

Justin Bieber

I can’t bash the look. It’s my go to when I’m in college. Probably wouldn’t be my go to if I was invited to the VMAs.
