The ‘NEW’ slate won all Officer positions in the Oxford Union Trinity term 2022 elections, results released early this morning confirm.
Charlie Mackintosh (NEW) won the race for the Oxford Union’s President, beating out Anvee Bhutani (BeREAL) by a vote of 474-216. Mackintosh will serve in Hilary Term 2023. Matthew Dick (NEW) will be Secretary in Michaelmas 2022, winning by 395-249 over Alex Garcia (BeREAL). Sharon Chau (NEW) won the race for Treasurer-Elect against Israr Khan (BeREAL) by 411-209, and Disha Hegde (NEW) won the race for Librarian-Elect against Mekaeel Malik (BeREAL) by 430-175. All in all, Mackintosh’s ‘NEW’ slate swept the Officer positions over Bhutani’s ‘BeREAL’ slate.
Turnout in the Oxford Union Trinity Term election was significantly lower this term at 779 compared to 1,128 in Hilary Term.
Charlie Mackintosh told the Oxford Student, “The last 24 hours has been both stressful and surreal. I am grateful for everyone both in and outside the Union who has supported me over the last two years, everyone who voted for me, and to Anvee for being a great opponent and a hard-working Secretary. I cannot wait to take up office and get on with organising fitting celebrations of the Society’s 200 anniversary next year.”
