Ashmolean Museum announces new major exhibit

The Ashmolean Museum have announced their next major exhibition, Colour Revolution: Victorian Art, Fashion & Design.

Aiming to “[dispel] our monochrome idea of Victorian Britain”, its mission is to “[r]ediscover Victorian society as a vibrant colour-filled era”.

The exhibition is set to feature a mix of artwork by artists including John Ruskin, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and James Abbott McNeill Whistler.

This is alongside Victorian fashion, including Queen Victoria’s mourning dress.

Its overall focus is exploring how the evolution of colour and aesthetics shaped art and culture in the Victorian era.

The exhibition is open from the 21st of September 2023 until the 18th of February 2024, with museum members and Oxford students being able to book tickets for free.

The Ashmolean museum is the world’s first university museum and is open seven days a week.
